Acts 22:16 Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name
One Sunday after church Axton asked Brandon and I about what it meant to be baptized. We explained to him that being baptized is a symbol of your love for Christ and a promise to God to live a life that resembles Christ. Being immersed in water washes sin away and gives you a new start. It means that you have been born again as a Christian. He explained what he understood about baptism and proceeded to explain that he was ready to be baptized. Tears welling up in my eyes, I wanted to do it right away, but I knew it had to be in God's time. It was almost two months before I knew the timing was right. Axton kept talking about it and we prayed about it together. Life Fellowship has Water Baptism Day once a month. So, on October 30 my son got baptized!! My mom and Mammaw came to witness this and share in this special moment. They were also at mine and Brandon's baptism. Prior to the baptism, I knew that I wanted Mammaw to read the Bible with Axton. This was and is a favorite memory of mine. Mammaw can tell a story like none other. Her reading voice is pleasant and calming. I can feel Jesus when she reads from her Bible.
Of course I wanted everything to go perfectly, but a few small things didn't. I wanted it to be videoed and photographed. My phone shut off right as Axton was being immersed in the water. My battery in my Nikon was low, and I was panicking. I almost let Satan steal my joy. I quickly realized that all of these things were not why we were there and had no meaning in what was happening. I needed to look beyond my lens and witness what was really happening. My son was giving his life to Christ. How could I be so blinded by capturing the moment, instead of embracing it. Sometimes we get so caught up in small things that we forget to look beyond them. Thank God again for pulling me from that rut.
I did manage to capture some pretty heart strumming moments to cherish for years to come :) somehow... with a dead battery! Coincidence? I think not!
